The megalith trail
A walking route has been created to allow visitors to discover the Alignments from the outside.
In order to improve access to the Alignments and encourage the development of walking areas, in 2016 the Centre des monuments nationaux, the Morbihan département and the municipality of Carnac signed an agreement to create a walking and hiking route along the Alignments of Ménec, Kermario, Kerlescan and the Tumulus Saint-Michel, which are managed by the various signatories. It has been designed with respect for the environment and with the desire to preserve the natural state of the ground.
From the Maison des Mégalithes, the trail around the Alignements du Ménec is accessible to people with reduced mobility via a 700-metre loop.In this sector, the boundary between the sites is marked by a long low drystone wall dating from the modern era. It was in a very poor state of repair and was restored between 2018 and 2020 by teams from the Auray Quiberon Terre Atlantique Community of Communes' integration project, using traditional wall-building techniques. In line with the departmental plan for walking and hiking itineraries, this route was also included in the application to have the megalithic landscapes listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Since 12 July 2025, the megaliths of Carnac and the banks of the Morbihan have been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The path from the Alignements du Ménec to the Alignements Kerlescan is open to pedestrians all year round, with free access and no closing times.
THE ALIGNMENT ROAD :
Since the end of June 2025, a one-way, shared lane traffic system has relieved congestion on a section of the Route des Alignements, which is the busiest in the high season (from Toul Chignan to Le Ménec), making the area around the menhirs safer and encouraging soft traffic (bicycles, pedestrians).
